At this stage of Triple Crown, I feel like I’ve seen enough to know with some degree of certainty that journalism and sovereignty are at the top of my class. Is it highly likely that all three will run their best races this Saturday and finish 1-2-3? Probably not. Journalism comes from a short rest after two biggest effort runs in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Sovereignty and Baeza were taking five weeks off from the Derby, and they both ran new career-high races (often followed by some regression).
That being said, given my tendency towards long shots and choosing worthy horses, I’m going to swing on improved hill roads. There is no scenario where the Peter Pan Stakes winner doesn’t end in the top three. So here is my bet:
$4 Trifecta Box: #1 Hill Road, #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism ($24)
$2 triple key: #1 Hill Road with #2 Sovereignty, #3 Rodriguez, #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism, #2 Sovereignty, #3 Rodriguez, #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism (total of $24)
Trifecta keybox for $1: (Finish at any of the top 3 spots of #1 Hill Road)

For me, the handicap of the Belmont stakes comes down to one opinion. In the Kentucky Derby finish, was sovereignty defeating journalism by 1½ length, a real sign of talent level, or was it a result of racial state and flow? Sovereignty made a better trip than his rivals in the Derby, as Jockey Junior was able to release Colt from trouble in general and appear in Churchill Downs slops using journalism as a target. Journalism was a bit difficult to get into gear early in the race, but in my opinion it may have moved early. Of course, journalism has overcome an almost catastrophic trip to beat Preakness.
Ultimately, we can’t see the fact that trainer Michael McCarthy shows a high level of confidence in regaining journalism in two weeks, showing high levels of confidence in his fierce battle victory to compete with Colt, who has already beaten him and has three weeks of extra rest. My main concern is likely to be identified from the above sentence, and comes down to the decisions of the jockeys during the race. This is especially true because Umberto Rispoli, the regular rider of journalism, has a mount in Saratoga. But journalism is running for the best three years of the decade so far, and based on that, I put him on a five-dollar three regiment with sovereignty, Baeza and a late Hill Road beneath it. Also, journalism and sovereignty end 1-2, with one of the other two finishing with an investment of $40 total, creating an additional $5 triple.
$5 triple key: #7 Journalism #1 Hill Road, #2 Sovereignty, #6 Baeza, #1 Hill Road, #2 Sovereignty, #6 Baeza ($30)
$5 triple key: Journalism with Sovereignty of #7 #2 #1 Hill Road and #6 Baeza ($10)

Although it’s not clear from the Speed Figure, I think the top three in the Kentucky Derby are more head and shoulders than the rest of the 3-year-old division. I think my main bet in this race is to play big Exacta in the Preakness Winner Journalism over Baeza, the third-place finisher in the Derby, and turn that around little by little. So for $60, I might bet $35 Exacta on journalism around Baeza and $25 Exacta on journalism.
In my opinion, the rain in the forecast definitely climbs the sovereignty of the winners of the Kentucky Derby. Adjust on the spot to illustrate muddy and sloppy tracks. From the Trifecta perspective, I think the form of race should benefit Baeza and journalism, who have more tactical speed than sovereignty. Use sovereignty in the second and third.
$10 Triple Parts Wheel: #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism #2 Sovereignty #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism ($20)
$10 Triple Parts Wheel: #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism with Sovereignty ($20)
Noel Michaels:
A few weeks ago I wrote an article about the details of ABR. The running style is excellent at 1¼ mile in Saratoga. This was bad news for the late runners, such as Hill Road, Heart of Honor and, even more sovereignty, in turn. These slow movements do not work in Saratoga. The Spa’s victory profile at this distance is speed from the inner three posts, which predicts Belmont’s bet, Rodriguez, who is upset by horses that fit perfectly with the track trends. The Wood Memorial presented by NYRA BETS allows the winners trained by Bob Bufferate to reach the front and can go all the way under Jockey Mikesmith.
I think most horses’ Belmont Stakes chances will be less if they’ve already passed the rigour of the first two legs of the Triple Crown. That’s why journalism is not available. But I’m a fan of his talent and believe he will ultimately prove to be the best of the 3 year old this year, so I’m sure he’ll be inevitable in my triple line. The sky is the limit of Baeza, which could be on the cliff of the big one, based on the second big one in the Santa Anita Derby and the third in the Kentucky Derby. You wouldn’t be surprised if the Belmont Stakes were his groundbreaking race. He stalks a close pace, meaning he has the right running style. So here is my bet:
$5 Trifecta Box: #3 Rodriguez, #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism ($30)
$2 triple key: #3 Rodriguez #2 Sovereignty, #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism, #2 Sovereignty, #6 Baeza, #7 Journalism ($12)
