Gastherum (19-10 MMA) is back in action for the first time since beating Daniel Rodriguez in Saudi Arabia last June. “KG” went 2-3 overall in his last five Octagon appearances.
Meanwhile, Joe Piffer (14-3 MMA) last competed in June 2024, where he won a knockout victory over Mark Andre Barrier. Previously, the promising candidate had suffered a loss of a unanimous decision to Jack Hermanson.

One of the middleweight contests begins, with Kelvin Gastherm starting with a low kick. He is a much shorter fighter in this. Joe Piffer has his own low kick. He goes to the body with a follow-up kick. A big punch and a “kg” fall onto the canvas. He jumps out quickly and lands a good left hand. Both men with big punch attempts that they missed. Pyfer tears the body with the right hook. Gastherm on the left answers Joe to the clean right above. The previous title challenger appears to close in the distance. He seemed to recover from his right hand, which caused him to crash quickly. Kelvin in a body shot. He appears to clinch, but Pyfer abandons him. Joe Pyfer swings on a left hook attempt and misses the mistake. Kelvin Gastherm returns the fire with a low kick that lands. A decent jab from “kg” followed by a jab on the body. A giant head kick from Pyfer connects the flash. The Gastherum remains standing, but is sent again with another large right hand. He is standing up, but appears to be in trouble. Pyfer with a left hook. He misses with rights. The horn sounds like it’s over round one.

Round 2 of this UFC 316 main card match begins, and Joe Pyfer finds the left hook house early. Kelvin Gastherm appears to be struggling with distance. He landed a low kick, but not much. Good 1-2 sends “kg” stumbling in reverse. Pyfer is currently under attack. He smells blood. Good low kick from the ups and commerce. Gastherm looks for 1-2, but it’s lacking. Pyfer has a good kick for your body. “kg” responds with a low kick. He lands another. And another. Joe Piffer sways to the right and lets him go away. Kelvin Gastherm goes inside and lands a small gust of wind. A good jab from the former TUF winner. Pyfer appears to be focused on landing kill shots. Gastherum on the left and right. Pyfer of 1-2. The horn sounds like it’s over round two.
The third and final rounds of this middleweight contest begin, with Joe Piffer lowering his big right hand that Kelvin Gastherm can slip on. A good left hook from Joe. He is pushing action at this point. “kg” shoots one leg, but get it. Nice 1-2 Pyfer. Gastherm shakes and makes a mistake in an attempt at body shots. He throws out the inadequate jab. Pyfer misses it with the left hook. Nice straight left from “kg”. He lands another and forces a clinch. Joe Pyfer avoids and breaks freely before filming for his own takedown. He throws Kelvin away, but the former TUF winner immediately gets up and pushes Joe into the cage. Less than 2 minutes remains. Pyfer is released from the clinch. Kelvin lands a low kick. Another good left at the top by Kelvin Gastherm. He lands a left follow-up on his body. He definitely beats this round. I missed Joe’s right hook. Large “kg” inner low kickland. He connects with a big left hook. The horns echo to end the battle.
