Santa Anita Spring Meat will close the Sunday with a very competitive 12 race cards with a large field and mandatory payments in all stake pools. The first post is at 3:30pm.

Emphasizing the Father’s Day program is the traditional closing day feature of Santa Anita, Grade 3 San Juan Capistrano Stakes Approximately 1 3/4 miles on the grass. On Saturday morning, trainer Jonathan Thomas reported that he could be perfect for Mrs. Astor, the morning line in both San Juan Capistrano, and for Phil and the filly on Saturday.

“I think it would be better to set up (probably perfect) her for Del Mar,” Thomas said. Time Song (8-1) For San Juan Capistrano’s arrogate (20-1). “She was already a rated winner so there was no need to incorporate that into the equation. And, despite not like Shu-in on Saturday, she didn’t want her to have to break herself against the boys. She still has to show up and run.”

As for the more fantasy of Thomas’ remaining two runners, Timesong, he recently returned from a 5 1/2 month layoff and finished third on June 7th with a one mile optional claimant/starter allowance.

“It’s like more of a pedigree with him,” Thomas said. “He doesn’t have any bends in his legs, but he seems to have a lot of stamina.”

Time Song will be riding top turfrider Hector Verios for the first time.

It is Divin Propos who lifts Ricky Gonzalez from the San Juan Capistrano photo and takes over his favorite role, who lifts Ricky Gonzalez for trainer Phil Damato.

On March 22nd, at San Luis Ray (G3), Divin Propos and Gonzalez led the stretch in the 1 1/2 mile San Luis Ray (G3), but were overtaken late by the winner Atitlan finishing second. Divin’s suggestion was then sent to Pimlico and tried out a dinner party (G3) on May 17th at 1 1/8 miles.

“The final race here (San Luis Ray) was a really good effort and it seems Ricky Gonzalez is doing well with him,” Damato said.

D’Amato has won San Fuan Capistrano three times. This has been happening in a row from 2019 to 2021. Divin Propos, a five-year-old French-grown molt of Jeorge Vancouver, is hoping for his first stakes victory.

The expected pacesetter for San Juan Capistrano is Valadil. Baladia will have Hall of Fame Kent De Solmee for trainer George Papa Prodro Lomau. More recently, Varadere showed the way at Whittingham (G2) at 1 1/4 miles, eventually leading on the eighth pole before finishing the fourth, 1 1/4 length of winner Atitlan.

Balladeer usually wears a blinker, but is removed for San Juan Capistrano.

“He’s a little bit further,” explained Papaprodrom. “He has been working a few times without them and seems a little more relaxed.
