La Clippers refuses to abandon keymen in Kevin Durant’s potential trade, but can include an All-Star Snub

The LA Clippers are mentioned as Kevin Durant’s possible destination.

During the backend of the NBA season, the LA Clippers were promoted as dark horses to play off runs.

The Clippers won 50 wins after the season and fell into the playoffs in the Denver Nuggets’ 7-game series.

With offseason speculation beginning to bubble up, the Clippers are being leaned into outsiders to land Kevin Durant.

Brian Windhorst reports that the Clippers are a surprising landing position for Durant amidst the competition with Rocket, Spurs, Heat, Raptor and Timberwolves.

There is an obvious temptation to add Kevin Durant to the LA Clippers Group. He fits the timeline of a team led by aging veterans.

One of these is Durant’s former Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Net teammate James Harden.

One player the Clippers can’t include in the deal is Star Center Ivica Zubac, who is considered crucial to the team.

Mark Stein reports that he hopes the Phoenix Suns can add Zubach via trade, but the Clippers “has no desire” to include the big man.

This makes perfect sense on the Clippers’ part. Zubac stands out late in the season, playing an impressive match against Nikola Jokic in the playoff series against the Nuggets.

Zubac averaged 16.8 points per game and 12.6 rebounds per game during the regular season. In the playoffs he posted 17.1 ppg and 10.1 RPGs, maintaining an impressive level.

If the Clippers are going to trade Kevin Durant, they could be built around Norman Powell, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Derrick Jones Jr.

Norman Powell was particularly impressive for the Clippers in the first half of the season, but he had many complaints from the former star that he was snubled in the 2025 All-Star Game.

Hoopsype reports that the Suns have done “background work” to Powell by watching trade possibilities, as well as their interest in Zubac, and that the Clippers are “reluctant” to lose their star center.
