Aston Villa’s left back Ian Matzen has been heavily criticised for his performance in the Netherlands in less than 21 years.
The Dutch defender has struggled to find his best form for his country, and former Chelsea and Dutch ace Khalid Bourrafurs have not held back from his 23-year-old idea.
Maatsen can certainly be a top performer, shining as a Chelsea young man before impressing loans at Borussia Dortmund, and has since won a permanent move to Villa.
Still, after the end of a long club season, he appears to have not been at the right level for his national team this summer.

Discussing Maatsen’s poor performance, Boulahrouz said:
“That’s not possible. If you’re talking about the need, I’ll say at dinner that Matten apologizes to the group and says, “I’m going to rest, I’ll sleep, but I won’t eat because I don’t deserve it.”
“He (Maatsen) has shown that he is a much better footballer than what he has shown in the last two games.
“He played in his own position today. Come on the guy. What kind of performance is this?! If I were Reijger, I think, “I feel a bit betrayed somewhere.”
“Maybe betrayed is a huge word, but I’ve given you all the trust. I think at least you’re set by example for the group. And now you’re a bad example for the group.”
