Liverpool will actively discuss to sign a “exceptional” £80 million ace

Liverpool certainly need to sell some to balance the book for all reception this summer.

The Reds have already lined up more expensive moves this summer, including a deal to sign Jeremy Fripon and sign Florian Wirtz for what Fabrizio Romano is reporting at £128 million.

To create a room for other signatures and raise funds, FSG may have to sell a few key first team players. One person who recently linked to the movement is Cody Gakupo, whom Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg is on the list of Bayern Munich, a club looking for a new winger.

Selling someone like Gakpo means they can free up the funds and need to sign a new winger to replace him.

Liverpool’s new left-wing target

If Gakupo leaves Anfield, that would be a big move for the Reds. Certainly, his potential move towards the German champions is not a guarantee, but it appears to be eye-opening, as there are several targets in their vision.

However, if Arne Slot’s side is to lose Gakpo this summer, it appears they’re already lined up his replacements.

According to a Daveockop report, Liverpool has made “active contact” to sign Anthony Gordon this summer. He was a player chased in 2024, but the move never came to fruition.

Liverpool’s “interest in England International continues this summer,” and they were able to spend a fee of £80 million to sign him. At least that’s how much he suggested that it was worth coming back in May. It’s probably how much he’ll cost Red.

Why Gordon is a good signing

If the Reds bring Gordon to the club this summer, he will be behind the great shape of Newcastle in 2024/25. He has been described as an “exceptional” player last season by football scout Antonio Mango.

In the final semester of Magpies, England International played 42 matches in all competitions, scoring nine goals and earning seven assists. In the Premier League, he bagged six goals and created the same amount featured in 34 games.

Who can forget about the contribution to the Carabao Cup Magpie? Gordon supported the quarter final and scored on legs against Arsenal in both legs in the semi-finals to send Eddie Howe’s side to Wembley. It was the game they won, beating Liverpool 2-1, but the winger was interrupted after picking up a red card in the Premier League.

It appears that Gordon will be a direct replacement for Gakupo if he leaves Anfield for Allianz Arena this summer. He was certainly impressed under the slots in the previous period, helping Liverpool win the second Premier League title.

The Eindhoven-born winger, who joined the Reds at PSV, played 35 top flight games and contributed 10 goals and five assists in the title-winning season. Three of these target involvement took place at Anfield against Ipswichtown in a 4-1 victory.

So, Gakpo had a strong campaign in the 2024/25 season, but there are statistics via Fbref, suggesting that Gordon could be an upgrade for the Dutch.

For example, the Magpies star recorded an average of 1.89 key passes and 4.48 progressive carry per 90 minutes, comparing a 1.77 key passes and a 2.74 progressive carry with a 2.74 progressive carry from Gakpo.

These numbers suggest that Gordon adds much more creative influence than Liverpool No. 18, adding dynamism and positive thinking when carrying the ball. He adds a whole new dynamic to the already deadly attack.

The £80 million charge is expensive, but Reds will need a replacement for Gakpo if they depart. So signing Gordon is a perfect move and in many ways a major upgrade.
