Grade 1 winner Johannes Trainer Tim Yakteen said Sunday.

“He’s back well,” Yakteen said. “We sent him out and gave him a little ‘r and r’. He’s galloping and will see him on the work tab towards the end of the month. ”

The victory at San Gabriel concluded the sparkling season of Johannes, now a five-year-old horse by Nyquist. Johannes won five of six starts in all staged stakes, including Shoemaker Mile (G1) last year. His only loss was running in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Delmar in November.

Johannes was able to return at Del Mar this summer, but Jacteen said, “We haven’t looked at the ball yet.

“Whenever he is ready, he is ready. He tells us,” Yakteen added.

Owned and bred by Cuyassy, Johannes has an overall record of 13:8-1-1, with revenue of $1,153,859. Johannes, 3, both won two stakes at Santa Anita. Last year, in addition to Shoemaker Mile and San Gabriel, Johannes won the Americans (G3) and Hope Mile City (G2) at Santa Anita and Eddie Reed (G2) (G2) at Delmar.

“It’s exciting to get him back,” Yakteen said.
