According to the latest reports, intermediate massacre and vice-captain Saud Shaukle could replace Shan Masood as Pakistan’s test captain as part of the plan.

According to Geo News, vice captain Saud Shakeel could replace Shan Masood as the test captain. Pakistan’s Cricket Committee has not yet confirmed the development, but the decision is almost complete.

“Sources say that the 29-year-old intermediate fabric is expected to replace Shan Masood as part of a broader structural reform within Pakistan’s cricket by serving as vice captain,” the report said.
“While an official announcement from Pakistan’s Cricket Board (PCB) is still awaiting, sources suggest that the decision is almost complete.”
Shanmasudo was appointed in 2023 but cannot deliver as a captain and batter.
Shan Masood was appointed late in 2023 but was unable to deliver both the captain and batter. The team has secured just three wins in 12 Tests and he is being scrutinized for his leadership. His inconsistent performance and strategy raise concerns within team management and selectors.
In contrast, Saud Shakeel has emerged as a key player for Red-Ball Cricket. The PCB considers him a long-term option. Saud Shakeel proved his leadership qualification in PSL 10, leading Quetta Gladiator to the top of the league stage with six wins in nine games.
It is worth mentioning that the next test allocation for Pakistan is set for October 2025. It will host South Africa in a multi-format series featuring two tests, three one-day internationals and three T20Is.
