In his exclusive column for catch-offside, former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Stan Colliemore discuss the transfers of Dean Huizen and Jeremy Frimon, Trent Alexander Arnold discusses Liverpool fans, the Europa League, UEFA Conference League Finals and more, some of the biggest topics of football that have been booed.
Dean Huysen to Real Madrid is sad for the Premier League
It shows the strength of the Premier League, where players can go from Bournemouth to Real Madrid. In the past, people like Dean Huijsen have often moved to the top six clubs in the UK and spent two or three years before joining Real Madrid or Barcelona.
If Huijsen moves to Dean Huijsen, it would be sad news for the Premier League. He was a very skilled defender and had a great season under Bournemouth and a very good manager. At Andoniiraora, we are sure there is a big club in Spain that wants to hire him, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he made a similar move in the coming years.
The situation for Huijsen is the same as for Trent Alexander-Arnold. When Real Madrid knocks, there is usually only one chance to move. No one can gratify him join someone like Chelsea or Liverpool and make that move.
Jeremy Frimon is a great signature from Liverpool
Given Connor Bradley has many injuries issues, I think Trent will leave and Liverpool will need to sign a new right-back this summer. And while he has gotten off to a good start in his Premier League career, it remains to be seen whether he will become a great player. I don’t think he’s still at the level of replacing torrents full-time.
Jeremie Frimpong will be a great signing. If that were to be off, I would love the deal. The ability to have a very good fullback to move forward is important, and the fact that Liverpool has already made a move is very wise.
I think he’s excellent at Liverpool. He is quick, moving forward and defensively good. He should also be a huge success as he fits the club’s profile.
Arne Slot was too cheeky in the situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold
This whole situation with Trent Alexander Arnold last weekend is in Arne Slot. I understand that he wanted to win Arsenal, but there was a political game that I should have played. In my opinion, he was too cocky. And this is the first time he’s been like that since he became Liverpool’s manager.
Perhaps he was overconfident as he solidified himself in Liverpool folklore after winning the Premier League title for the first time. But he should focus on picking the players he is on his team next season, and Trent is clearly someone he isn’t like he goes to Real Madrid. Slots will probably learn from this situation and will go differently in the future if a similar situation occurs again.
There’s no problem with Liverpool supporters thinking that Trent is unhappy with leaving and that he’s making a wrong move. But booing him is a big no, which goes against never walking the club’s motto. A player wearing Liverpool red should not be booed by his own supporters. Overall, it didn’t look good.
A trip to Dubai is not good for Liverpool
This trip to Dubai is nonsense as Liverpool as a football club is built on ruthless victory. The weather was already nice in the UK at this time, so there was no need to leave for warm weather training. They may have gone anywhere in the country for training camps, and instead of traveling the world on the way, they had some meals together.
Videos of Arne Slot and Partying Vibe players in Ocean Beach are not good for Premier League reliability. Yes, Liverpool has nothing else to play, but there are still two games. And the first of them will be playing against Brighton this weekend. He has a chance to finish at a European location.
If this were Liverpool’s rivals had already won the league, the players would party and celebrate, but there were upcoming matches that affected where Liverpool could end at the table.
Premier League must change its offside advantage rules
The referee exists so that the rules of soccer are enacted. And if it’s a clear infringement, play should stop immediately. I don’t know what’s so different about these offside situations. If it was a very marginal decision, there might be some leeway, but this situation with Tai Chi wasn’t – he was obviously offside.
For over 100 years, the judges were blown away as soon as an infringement occurred, with little problem. It is unacceptable that these situations occur when plays are allowed to continue despite clear offsides. And the player is injured at this stage. When he tore the ACL, it happened at Tyrone Mings against Newcastle, which happened at Awoniyi again.
No one should be placed in a induced coma state as a result of an incident that took place during a clear and obvious offside. We understand that the Premier League’s stance on these offsides is discretionary, but we need to see it for next season. These incidents cannot continue to happen.
Chelsea are the top five favorites despite Newcastle’s defeat
I still think I’m a favorite to qualify for next season’s Champions League alongside Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and Man City. They know what they need to do when they go to the city ground next weekend to play Man United and Nottingham Forest in their final two games, and if they win tonight.
The Champions League qualifiers are a key step in Chelsea’s project, allowing you to determine where you are based on your performance in the competition next season.
In the preseason, Aston Villa would have been nervous in their final two games, but given the circumstances, they will be confident they will win a victory over Tottenham and Man United. But Chelsea is about whether they will qualify for the Champions League again, as they are still in their hands.
If Aston Villa misses it, it’s not the end of the world. Because the Europa League is more competition than they can win. Just as Tottenham and Mann United have reached the finals this season. And although the forest misses the course, it was a great season, even if it was. And now they have secured European football, so that’s a great success for them.
Jim Ratcliffe needs to change his way with Man United
Rather than focusing on what’s important, Jim Ratcliffe feels like he’s taken things from the people he needs most at Man United. He has the feeling that he is fleeing the resources built during the time of Sir Alex Ferguson.
The optics of Ratcliffe’s latest decision are awful. It’s a sloppy dic to reduce the number of tickets a player can claim for his family and friends for the Europa League final, and it’s mean. The final is a fun opportunity, but this will dampen it for Man United.
Man United’s Ratcliffe days focused on this penny-pinch attitude, directing supporters to the club. And as things continue in this stream, there will continue to be more pressure on the board – and most of that is not for Glaser, that is for Ratcliffe and his people.
Ratcliffe needs to change the way he runs things in Old Trafford. The credibility he received when he arrived at Man United is already burning out, so he needs to start showing goodwill to the club’s staff and supporters.
My Europa League and UEFA Conference League Prediction
You can see both finals have extra time. In the Europa League, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding how Tottenham and Mann United perform in Bilbao, so it was very easy to see them finishing 2-2 or 3-3 in 90 minutes. Both teams are injured and the available teams can be caught coldly as they try hard not to keep their knocks in the buildup.
Who wins could be a huge amount of coins, but with his neck sticking out, I think Tottenham will take that as he made Man United better in the previous three meetings this season.
Chelsea Betty’s final in the UEFA Conference League will be much closer than people think. The difference turns out to be a strange goal, but while Betis has players like Antony and Isco in the top form, you can see Enzo Maresca’s side robbing the win due to his offensive talent.
