Saratoga Springs prepares for the exciting Belmont Stakes Festival Week

Excitement is building as Saratoga Springs, New York prepares to host the Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA BET for the second year in a row.

157th The edition of “Test of the Champion” will be contested as the center of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival at the Saratoga Race Course on June 7th. The festival will be held from June 4th to 8th and features 27 stakes races worth $11.275 million. When switching the final leg of the Triple Crown to Saratoga, the distance was reduced from the traditional half to a mile and a quarter to match the composition of the 161-year-old main track, who first hosted horse racing in 1864.

“Last year was pretty electric. Getting it back is a huge win for us, not just for racing fans, but for the entire community,” said Darryl Leggieri, president of Discover Saratoga. “It’s going to be another special time for us.”

The two-time opportunity in a lifetime comes from the $455 million rebuild of Belmont Park and the New York Racing Association’s determination to continue its large-scale projects without interruption.

The city of Saratoga Springs is doing everything possible to turn these situations into short-term and long-term benefits.

Leggieri said of his experience last year: “We thought it was amazing. In my opinion, the impact was huge. The whole community was able to avoid it and introduce Saratoga Springs and Saratoga County to the world stage.

Leggieri said the economic benefits of the standard 40-day summer conference are estimated at $370 million. At the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival and the July 4th race festival, which is the prelude to the 40-day convention from July 10th to Labor Day, September 1st, he expects profits to be close to $400 million this year.

In this city of 28,593 people (as of 2022), it is about Bofo’s business, but also to celebrate the history that is being created. My passion for racing lies deep within Saratoga Springs. Later generations pour into Saratoga’s race course, many of them return to the picnic table in their backyard to play pony. It is common for fans to dash as soon as the gate opens and requests a table.

“The town itself is solo-centric. Everyone is hooked on it,” said Tom Durkin, a former truck announcer who is a Saratoga Springs resident. “We eat, breathe, walk, and race.”

Visitors enjoy being wiped out by the enthusiasm of the locals. Many times, conversations take place at races at more than 180 bars and restaurants in Saratoga. When the time comes for big races like the Whitney Stakes and Traver Stakes, Downtown is always bustling.

It feels as if everything is being relegated to the Belmont notch. There are all reasons to believe that the annual summer tournament will benefit from its momentum.

“We’re doing great things,” said David Hayes, managing director of the historic Adelphi Hotel. “The whole summer is busy and is better than last year.”

Hayes expects Adelphi to sell both dates, as there are only a handful of rooms left for the Belmont Stakes Eve and Belmont Stakes Day. He also oversees two popular restaurants, the lounge and bistros at Salt & Char and Morrissey. Good luck.

“The restaurant is almost likely to already have to come with reservations,” Hayes said. “There are hardly any reservations left.”
