After five different Grand Prix winners in the last five races, MotoGP heads to Aragon, Mark Marquez’s most dominant event of the 2024 season.
Ducati arrives in the face of the rare threat of a third consecutive MotoGP defeat that has not been experienced since its inception in 2021.
After securing a record 22 consecutive wins from Geres 2024-2025, Ducati’s winning streak finally ended with Honda’s Johann Zarco’s wet victory at Le Mans.
They were then beaten dry again by Marco Betzecchi’s Aprilia and Zarco in Silverstone. There, Marquez took third place after crashing in the original start.
If Yamaha’s Fabio Cartararo had not suffered from a device failure while leading with Silverstone, Ducati would probably have been missing on the podium – the last scenario seen in Saxenring 2021.
The year marked Ducati’s final three races winning streak, starting with three Yamaha victories from Maverick Venares and Quartararro.
Ducati’s return is widely expected this weekend, with championship leader Mark Marquez taking the lead and invincible in the soil of Aragon’s home with Gresini last season.

Another silverstone style surprise?
crash.net Podcast host Jordan Moreland believes Aragon is made for Marquez.
“We said about Kota. We said about Jerez. But Aragon is for me, Mark Marquez’s circuit. Alongside Saxenring, he’s just doing something completely different to the rest of us.”
Reminiscing Marquez’s unparalleled performance in 2024, Moreland added:
“Last year he dominated all the practice sessions. The dirty track clearly helped him. He got a much more lean angle than anyone else.
However, alongside Marquez’s Red Hot 2025 pace, there have been recent mistakes.
“The GP25 can be difficult to ride, but this should be 37 points for Mark – if he stays on the bike,” Moreland continued. “But he was saved by the red flag of silverstone. There’s a bit of a tendency in that he’s also focused on Kota and Jerez.”
crash.net MotoGP editor Pete Mclaren also highlighted Marquez’s Sunday vulnerability.
“It’s amazing. After a near-perfect start to the year, I took a step back and looked at the statistics and now I’ve had three crashes at Seven Grand Prix.
McLaren believes that Aragon’s tracking conditions may be important.

“Silverstone is this year’s dry race, like Maverick Venares, who won Aprilia in Kota in 2024, and then business as usual for Ducati?
“Or are you going to see more races like that, as Ducatis almost finds himself between soft and medium tires, and the fastest people from Yamaha, Honda, Aprilia and KTM can make the rubber better?
“In any case, Pecco has won Aragon in the past, and Alex Marquez has also finished on the podium… Bagnaia hopes that his front-end issues will be alleviated, but Alex should be strong again on the flowing corner of the GP24, and was tilted to win the British Grand Prix until the first turn fell.
“When Bagnaia and Alex intertwine in third place last year, it put Acosta and KTM on the podium at Aragon. The RC16 needs to have their long backs straight at Aragon.
Moreland said: “I think we can see multiple manufacturers ahead. I’m worried about Yamaha because they’ve struggled in the past in Aragon.
“Zarco had a real drying speed with silverstone. My concern is that unlike Silverstone, it’s a straight Honda’s long back that starts in a very slow corner,” McLaren said.
“But on the other hand, I think Aragon is a pretty balanced track in terms of layout, so many bikes get quick in different parts, and that’s about how well you fit it together.
“Honda wasn’t very optimistic before Silverstone, but it worked, especially for Zarco, who was able to deal with chatter more than Joan Mir or Luca Marini.
“And then after Betzekki’s first victory at RS-GP, he’s got Aprilia, who’s going to be high.”
Moreland: “Mark may have dominated Saturday to Silverstone, but we’ve had five winners in the last five GPS. Let’s see if it’s six this weekend.”
